was thinking if i need a rabies shot? amongst a few others i may need to take.
RECOMMENDED VACCINATIONS:
1) Hepatitis A vaccine
2) Typhoid vaccine
3)
4) Influenza vaccine
but the rabies vaccination is super expensive! and anyway its a multi-dose vaccination, no time for that.
RABIES:
Rabies PEP: rabies vaccine x 5 doses at day 0, 3, 7, 14, 28 (approx $160 per dose, total course = $800)
RIG is recommended for high-risk bites (unprovoked attack, stray animal) but is expensive (approx $1200 for 60kg person at 20 IU/kg)

GENERAL PRECAUTIONS:
1) Mosquito precautions: Repellant spray (eg 15% DEET, OFF) applied every 4-6 hours if the mozzies are biting.
2) Food & water - water should be boiled/bottled/iodinated, food should be well-cooked & hot. No ice, no salads, peel your fruit (not just wash it).
Bring anti-diarrheal meds, consider empiric cipro 500 mg bd x 3-5 days if severe (diarrhea with fever, going > 10x per day, bloody stools)
Oral rehydration with ORS, alternatively stuff like Gatorade, chicken broth, 7-Up, can help replace glucose, electrolytes & fluids

Hi there...
I am in Vadodara today, and will in Ahmedabad tomorrow and hopefully by the day after tomorrow will be in Udaipur.
There are no problem at all to book ticket last minutes, so far only once we need to stay another day because we cannot get any sleeper ticket on the train (oh.. by the way, we always travels by 2nd class sleeper, its good and pretty comfortable and it is bloody cheaper than the aircon 3tier or 2tier).
Oh, we met alot of travellers that loathe Jodhpur as it is filthy, there it is blue but only in the small corner of the city and if you see it from the fort, and if you have a good camera that can zoom far enough to just capture that angle from the fort. A couple from Belgium use the word.. "We left that city rapidly".. another one says "We just stay there long enough to get a ticket out from there".
And... I have to say this.. dont be paranoid about the vacinnation and it cost bloody expensive. If your company pays for you, go for it! if not, forget it. We have been on the road for 9 months, and the bite that you are most probably has is from mozzies and if you are crazy, the cows roaming the street.

There are no branded mineral water! All seems to have good brand, as advertised, but always in questionable condition, in restaurants even the smallest one they provide drinking water, as well as on the train station, they have some sort of water cooler. We drank and we are okay, so far only had stomach problem because the food was too hot (my tummy feels hot and warm instantly), other than that, we brush teeth, etc using local water, no problem at all.
Send us a note if you want to meet up. Anyway, take care and enjoy the trip. And girls better wears long sleevers and baggy pants, I got hit on alot of times on the street.
